Plot twist:
Bananas are berries. Strawberries are liars.
In botany โ the science of plants โ a berry has to grow from one flower, with seeds inside its flesh. A banana grows from a single flower, and its seeds are those tiny brown specks inside. A strawberry grows from a flower too, but those little yellow dots on the outside are the actual fruits. A single strawberry is dozens of tiny fruits stuck together. Not one berry at all.
What else is secretly a berry? โ
Avocados, kiwis, and even watermelons all qualify as berries by the same rules. Tomatoes too โ they're fruits AND berries.

Can you think of a 'vegetable' you eat that might secretly be a fruit? (Hint: think about what goes on pizza.)
